OOC 1: Vandal Squadron

Admiral Duck Sauce 2005-06-17 18:55:38
Jorm was able to get these ships available to your squadron:

1 B-Wing (gunner and pilot, can be operated singly if needed)
- lasers, ion cannons, missiles, torpedoes
2 Y-Wings (gunner & pilot, can be single pilot if needed)
- lasers, ion cannons (turret), torpedoes
The Rusty Dagger (of course)
- has spots for pilot, copilot, systems op/astrogator, two dedicated gunners (can be flown individually by Arnae or Aurelia in a pinch, anyone else would need at least two people to fly it)
- two laser turrets, fixed lasers and ions, missile launchers
1 A-Wing (single pilot only)
- lasers, missiles
3 X-Wings (single pilot only)
- lasers, torpedoes

I'm afraid I'll not be posting too much from now until Tuesday. Hopefully you guys can set up a plan, and we can follow through with it when I get back.

Assuming we go for a ground grab, I would recommend taking the Dagger with no more than one escort fighter (since we need the pilots for the shuttles).

I would suggest either the B-Wing or Y-Wing as escort. Since they are the only fighters armed with Ion Cannons, they could knock out the comm array to whatever poor little station we attack. They are also bombers which means they can blow it up too.

B-Wing:

Pros:

Has a very small approach profile, making it harder to see against the blackness of space.

Overall the more advanced and superior fighter.

Cons:

Expensive if lost/destroyed.

Finicky

Y-Wing:

Pros:
Ion Cannon is turreted

Very dependable/durable

Cons:

OLD

SLOW

I'll be gone for some 10 days, so in the meantime Gatac will take over Eritram. If thats alright with everyone.

I like the idea of two different jackings, and I like the idea of using one shuttle to steal another shuttle.

Maybe for the second we could land Ganet and a few other smooth types with the shuttle, acting as the man of affairs or whatever for a moff or governor or somesuch, conducting a surprise inspection. The other folks Meanwhilst, we also have a strike team on foot and hiding outside the base in case it all goes sour.

So, we seem to have strong support for the ground operation, code name "Grand Theft Lambda Class Shuttle". Ok, so it's not a very good code name.

Do we want to try for two at once or one at a time?

If one at a time, do we want to try simultaneous (ie split up the team) or sequential?

Finally, do we want subterfuge or frontal assault?

******************************************
My answers:

1. One at a time.

2. We keep the team as together as possible. This saves the GM hassle and gives us more guns when/if this degenerates into a firefight.

3. I think we'll need to try the tough approach for shuttle 1 (because what Moff would show up in the Rusty Dagger), but for shuttle 2 we could try working some sneaky mojo like Threadbare suggests.

what do you think?

Sounds good to me.

Idea: if there is a rebel strike team (us) discovered outside the base, what better way to protect the big-wig(also us) than to let him go out with a decoy shuttle(2nd shuttle, one of theirs) to protect him?

All right, sorry for the longer pause, I got a new compy and I've been busy getting it up to speed.

I just want to know if this is the Plan (TM):

1. First Shuttle will be stolen during a covert ground assault on an Imperial maintenence facility or similar location. The facility will be sabotaged and/or bombed during the theft.

2. Second Shuttle will be stolen by using the first shuttle as a bluff and simply flying away with both of them.

Sounds about right. Though if there is a way to steal both without any violence that would be great. Like Aurelia/CrazyIvan's idea about a maintenance yard.

Our story should just go somewhere along the lines of a tramp freighter buying grain or such for commerce. Although the amount of weapons on the Rusty Dagger might put a wrench in that plan. Suggestions other than my "Fly Casual"?
Admiral Duck Sauce 2005-06-24 15:12:04
And that's why we have rolls for this sort of thing. :) If it goes south, that's a fine excuse to explain it.
CrazyIvan 2005-06-26 23:12:09
Is it safe for the Dagger to announce itself honestly? I'm wondering if it's on any "ZOMG Rebels" lists.
