OOC 1: Vandal Squadron

Doh! As scathing as Eritram's response might be, the crowd'll let Calsera get another chance at showing up our resident noble. :)

Well that went not as expected. I wont get a new suit of Stormtrooper armor though. It wasn't my idea to have more than one round!

hehe. If you want to incur favor with the peasants in 12th Wing, then get 'em a new suit. If you don't care, then don't worry about it. :)

Bring 'em home a new suit...one with the body still inside it.

Let's bring back a TIE Fighter with a Pilot still inside. We can play a game of "Destroy the TIE with knives."

If anyone has ship preferences, now would be a good time to suck up to Jorm.

Thoughts on the mission:

1a. Hi-Jack from a Low-level Maintenance Facility. Preferably in a backwater world [like Tatooine].

--or--

1b. Hi-Jack en route. Use Ion cannons to disable and then board or tow.

2. Probably best to be covert about this one. We can always change transponder codes, but if we have to blast our way out it will draw too much attention.

3. We should probably all pile into the Rusty Dagger Since we will need at least 2 pilots and 2 co-pilots to get the shuttles out unless we tow.

I'm with Aihals 1a. on this, but I dont think Tatooine has Lambda Shuttles.

Some other imperial garrison would do too I think.

I'd prefer this as attacking them would be a risky deal. They might be able to get a transmission out before we could take over the ship.

In/out of a maintenance facility shouldn't be too hard as there will be a minimum amount of security and most of the personnel would be non-combatants.
Aihal the Silent 2005-06-17 18:20:51
Well, if we go with 1b then jamming equipment will be a necessity, but I like 1a the best (and the other suggestions are assuming we choose 1a)
Admiral Duck Sauce 2005-06-17 18:34:42
The tricky part to this mission is that they need two shuttles. Here's some obstacles and ideas to consider:

1. Out-of-the-way maintenence facility is fine - you guys could throw darts at a map for the location if you wanted to. :)
2. You need two shuttles - unless you're going to run two thefts in different places (always an option), anywhere that has two shuttles is probably going to be a little tougher to get inside than the periodic cargo hauler used by some backwoods garrison.
3. The benefit from stealing them on the ground is that you can use hyperspace to your advantage. They're not going anywhere; you're jumping out as soon as you clear the gravity well. Attacking a convoy, you'd run the risk of the Imperials doing exactly what you guys have done since I've been running Star Wars. :)
4. A facility big enough to need two shuttles at the same time will probably have from 20-40 Stormtroopers, maybe that number again for technical personnel. AA Turbolasers, probably several wings of TIE Fighters.
5. The more damage you do to the place you're stealing from is just a side benefit for the Alliance's cause. If there's noone alive to chase you, you can't be chased now, can you? :)
6. Infiltrating and sneaking into such a facility would be best done on foot. Disguise your landing approach and walk in, go Sam Fisher on them.

In case of 1b we would have to find out where and when 2 lambda shuttles will be in transit. I think thats pretty hard to find out.

Here's a thought.

1. Steal Shuttle 1 from some backwater where nothing ever happens. Destroy the base as a side benefit.

2. Use Shuttle 1 to steal Shuttle 2 from another backwater. Jack it on the landing pad.
fanchergw 2005-06-17 18:45:04
I'm in favor of a ground operation. Stealth, I like. Land the Dagger nearby, sneak in, take out the guards a few at a time as quietly as possible, steal the shuttles and blow the base as we leave.

Dieter's plan for double-hijackings has the advantage of reducing the opposition at any one location.

Seems pretty straight-forward to me.
Admiral Duck Sauce 2005-06-17 18:45:51
And a pair shuttles would definitely have an escort. The challenge with 1b is to stop them from jumping out as soon as you guys show up. You'd likely want multiple ships for 1b, and fewer or perhaps a single ship for 1a.
fanchergw 2005-06-17 18:51:36
I think 1b has pretty much been dropped at this point. I think the choice at this point is whether to get the two shuttles from *one* site or *two*. I think two smaller stations is the better / easier way to go. Optimally, we'd blow each on the way out.
Aihal the Silent 2005-06-17 18:51:37
More suggestions:

1. Go outside the Empire. See if we can't jack a shuttle from a third party.

2. Get a loaner. See if we can find any contact that would loan us a shuttle. It's a long shot, but that would accomplish 50% of our mission with little to no risk.
