OOC 2: Vandal Squadron - same as the first

Admiral Duck Sauce 2005-10-27 15:54:59
Do you all want to swap ships around or are you guys good with what you have? I posted the available fighters in the IC thread.

Also, the Sword's not a bad place to drop your refugees.

Now, what are your plans for getting your second Lambda?
Admiral Duck Sauce 2005-10-27 18:44:52
(rolls Jorm's crazy skills)

Why yes. Yes they do. :) At least for the systems near Tanteldra and Anoat (the departure/arrival systems for the shuttle's original planned flight). Keeping in mind that you can't intercept a hyperspace jump without an Interdictor or other astrogational hazard, if you were planning on taking a shuttle in orbit before it jumped, or right after it exited hyperspace, sure, you can do a smash and grab on half a dozen shuttles. But, if you want to make sure they're in the middle of nowhere when it happens, there IS a flight that you might be able to head off as it heads past Anoat's asteroid belt. It doesn't have specifics on cargo or escort, just a flight number, a "shuttle" designation, and the projected flight path.

That "in the middle of nowhere shuttle" sounds like a good bet...though...I do hear a song in the background:

It's a trap!
It's a trap!
It's a trap! Trap! Trap! Trap!

If we go for it, we'll need at least two ships with Ion Cannons. Three would be better.

Everyone not on the Dagger should be in a fighter just in case there is a large escort.
fanchergw 2005-10-27 19:20:15
Yeah, I'm thinking fighter-swarm. One pilot in the Dagger and everyone else who can fly in a fighter - preferably one with ions.

And yes, it is a trap.

I'm thinking its "cargo" is a super-powerful dark jedi that enjoys crushing starfighters from the comfort of his dark jedi lounge.

It's escort is probably 20 Tie Defenders and a Super Star Destroyer.
Admiral Duck Sauce 2005-10-27 19:34:37
I'm sorry - I meant to explain that ALL the flight schedules are like that. Flight number, spacecraft class, and projected flight path.
Aihal the Silent 2005-10-27 19:55:06
Is there a starfighter outfitted with advanced sensors and jammers and the like? That would seem more like Jorm's cup of tea unless he's on the Dagger.
Gatac 2005-10-28 10:06:11
I'm going X-Wing, somebody needs to fly space superiority on this and Mandall's not really into electronic warfare.

Sorry, there's nothing with an ECM thingy going on right now. Since nearly everyone's out on their own ops, the pickings are slim regarding non-standard craft.

We'll just blast the crap out of their communications then take it back.

Is it possible to rig some sort of grappling system on to more than one ship in we *ahem* manage to disable the shuttle?
Aihal the Silent 2005-10-28 16:33:06
I am assuming that the Dagger would be coming along and they could act as our tug. It is possible to repair the Ion Damage while in "flight"?
fanchergw 2005-10-28 17:36:33
Just did a little research online. Since the X-wing doesn't have ion cannons, that leaves me with a choice of Y-wing or B-wing. The B-wing has superior firepower, but the Y-wing is the faster of the two. I'm thinking that for this mission, faster is better. What do the rest of you think?

One question ADS: Would it be possible to board a Lambda in space once it's been disabled, or are they not rigged for that?
DatonKallandor 2005-10-28 19:43:40
Quite frankly I doubt the B-Wing is slower than the Y.

From the little info in litarature - Id say weak Ion damage can be repaired - if we blast it too strong it would need serious replacement of almost ALL internal parts.

Actually, I belive that fanchergw's assessment of the Y-Wing and B-Wing is accurate. The Y-Wing is faster, but has less armour and firepower. The B-Wing is damn tank and was originally designed as a frigate/capitalship killer, so it's got all kinds of armour and guns [and missles, etc.] but is really slow.

All of this is unimportant, however, since it's the admiral's call.

My advice is this:

We are all decent pilots, but our best pilots should take the X-Wings or A-Wing as they see fit and provide escort for the Y-Wings and B-Wing. While the "Aces" trash whatever escort is protecting the shuttle, the "Slugs" ionize the hell out of the shuttle.

Just my thoughts.

Flame Away. :)

B-Wing is slower than the Y-Wing, but their differences don't matter as much as they fight craft of greater-ranging speed and maneuverability:

B-Wing OR Y-Wing vs. a TIE Fighter or TIE Interceptor: TIE gets a maneuvering bonus

Y-Wing vs. TIE Bomber: no advantage either way

B-Wing vs. TIE Bomber: TIE gets manuevering bonus

B-Wing OR Y-Wing vs. Capital ship or freighter: B/Y-Wing gets maneuvering bonus
