The "re-bar" was more for dramatic effect than actual steel seats. You rolled a "2" on your attack roll effectively missing but it's hard to completely miss the seat entirely.

Slitting the goon's throat seemed like a better avenue of attack. Mind you, coup de grace-ing the driver of a moving SUV might not be the best way to resolve the issue but it is infinitely faster than trying to stab the guy to death.
