Do they seem of the goon variety or possibly henchman of Gulgo? Or are they just some dumb fucks who are barking up the entirely wrong tree?

They could be dumb goons of Gulgo's that are barking up the wrong tree, but you'd have to axe them that, as you put it.

You are located at the Second Chance's cargo hold/bay door. The place through which cargo (and people, too) enters the ship.

The thugs are in the doors to the Second Chance's docking bay. That is, the area where the ship is housed. Possibly other ships are also stored in that specific docking bay.

This is just a misunderstanding in terminology. And the break in the threads didn't help to link between the locations, either.
